The rains caused 15 buildings to collapse in New Delhi and at least one person was killed, NDTV said.
The heavy downpour submerged parks, underpasses, markets and even hospital premises, and caused chaos on the roads due to traffic congestion.
Earlier this week, Indian media reported that at least 12 people died in India's eastern state of Bihar as a result of lightning strikes and heavy rains.
The weather department said that light to moderate intensity rain would continue over many places in Delhi and its adjoining areas.
