An earthquake of magnitude 6.9 hit the coast of Ecuador,  local time 12:12, Depth    80 km

Seismologists recorded a large earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 on the coast of Ecuador in the province of Azuay, about 47 km northwest of Cuenca. The incident was reported by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center.

According to BNO News, the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 10 kilometers, the tremors were felt not only in Ecuador, but also in Guayaquil, Machala and neighboring Peru.

The US Geological Survey estimated the magnitude of the earthquake at 6.7.


The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center noted that "there is no threat of a tsunami from an earthquake in Ecuador."
