UAE says leak from oil tanker under control

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have brought under control a leak from an oil tanker reportedly struck by a projectile off the UAE coast.

“No new oil leaks from the tanker have been detected. Meanwhile, maritime and aerial monitoring and surveillance operations continue,” the state news agency WAM reported, citing the UAE Ministry of Environment.

Environmental clean up operations continue along stretches of coastline affected by ‌‌‌‌the spill, according to WAM.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations centre reported on October 9 that the Panama-flagged crude supertanker GEM NO.2 was struck by an unknown projectile 13 nautical miles west of Al Jazeera in the UAE.
