Powerful 6.5-Magnitude Quake Hits Southwestern China
A 6.5 earthquake magnitude occurred on Tuesday in the Sichuan province in southwestern China, the Chinese Seismological Center reported.

The tremors were registered at 21:19 local time (04.19 pm Moscow time) in Jiuzhaigou district of the Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture. The epicenter was located at the depth of 8 kilometers (some 5 miles), according to the report.

No information about the victims or material destruction caused by the earthquake have been received so far, the center said.

Sichuan is an earthquake-prone region. In 2008, the 8.0 magnitude Great Sichuan earthquake took some 70,000 lives and left millions homeless.

    The 6.5-magnitude quake struck in the sparsely-populated north of Sichuan, the US Geological Survey said...
    Few details are known about the extent of the damage and injuries, but there were reports of buildings collapsing in the Jiuzhaigou area of the province.
    Social media users said shaking could be felt in the provincial capital Chengdu, and Xian.
