Hawaii is preparing for a possible impact from Hurricane Lowell, one of 3 hurricanes currently active in the Pacific

Hurricane Lowell

Hurricane Lowell has regained Category 5 status, with winds exceeding 250 km/h.

According to scientists and meteorologists, Lowell intensified partly due to the El Niño phenomenon.

Hawaii Governor Josh Green declared a state of emergency for the entire state on Thursday to free up state resources and activate Hawaii National Guard units.

Hawaii is still recovering from the impact of Hurricane Lala in August.
