A powerful typhoon is approaching Japan; authorities have urged two million people to evacuate

Typhoon Dujuan is currently battering eastern Japan and moving toward the Tokyo metropolitan area. 

 According to Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs, the evacuation order affects 1,908,645 people across six prefectures: Ibaraki, Chiba, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Shizuoka, and Saitama.

The evacuation is not mandatory; however, the Japan Meteorological Agency has warned of an imminent threat to life in certain regions.

"Please check the disaster risk level in the municipality where you are currently located and evacuate before local authorities issue an official evacuation order," urged Takuya Hosomi, the agency's chief forecaster. 

According to him, the typhoon turned out to be stronger than expected.
