Aftermath of tropical cyclone Gamane in the island of Madagascar

--
Deadly Cyclone Gamane wreaks havoc in Madagascar

At least 18 people have now been reported killed after Cyclone Gamane made landfall in northern Madagascar this week, according to officials late on Friday, with four people still missing.

The cyclone was predicted to bypass the Indian Ocean island, but changed course, leaving hundreds of homes destroyed.

Madagascar has now been struck by at least 10 strong tropical cyclones since the start of 2022 after also suffering its worst drought in 40 years in the south.

Tropical cyclone Gamane is the first of this year's storm and cyclone season in Madagascar. Last year, Hurricane Freddy and Tropical Storm Cheneso caused at least 37 deaths and forced thousands from their homes.
