Medvedev says recurrence of terrorist attacks in MidEast tourist destinations possible

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has said the repetition of terrorist attacks in the Middle East tourist destinations is possible.

"One cannot be happy about the fact that the resorts of Egypt and Turkey are currently unavailable. This is not the government’s jiggery-pokery, this is not the ill will of the authorities," Medvedev said in an interview with Russia’s major TV channels. "This is the question of safety of our citizens."

According to him, choosing between security and vacations, the authorities opted for safety.

"What happened is obvious — an act of terror (the crash of the Russian aircraft over Sinai). Judging by what happened this year, the recurrence of such terrorist attacks this year is possible," the Russian prime minister said.

Medvedev noted that, "judging by the scale terrorism has assumed this year, the repetition of such terrorist attacks on air routes is, unfortunately, highly probable."

"I have in mind specific regions, above all, the Middle East. That was why we took a decision our friends and partners and people who spent their vacations there may not be particularly enthusiastic about. However, I believe that, after all, these are two entirely different values — your life or a good vacation," Medvedev said.
