Typhoon "Champi" has intensified into a Category 5 storm over the Philippine Sea. Wind speeds have reached 255 km/h, and the central pressure has dropped to 917 millibars. This was reported by the weather-monitoring group Backpirch Weather.
Experts have noted the storm’s unusual structure, including a pronounced "stadium effect" around the typhoon’s eye and clearly discernible mesovortices. These features set "Champi" apart from other tropical cyclones observed this year.
The typhoon formed on Wednesday and intensified rapidly over the weekend. It remained a Category 4 storm for the past few days before once again reaching Category 5, according to Weather Underground.According to the service, the storm was moving northwest at a speed of approximately 21 km/h. The forecast indicated a subsequent turn toward the north before reaching Taiwan. A powerful typhoon can pose a threat to coastal areas and maritime routes; therefore, any further changes in its trajectory and intensity remain significant for risk assessment.
