Europe experienced its hottest summer on record

The Copernicus service reported that August matched the record set in July 2023. 

The average air temperature was 16.96°C—0.85°C above the 1991–2020 average. 

August shares the top spot with July 2023 as the hottest month on record.

Globally, the summer as a whole (June–August) matched the record set in 2024. 

Western Europe surpassed the record for the hot summer of 2003.
