An earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 5.9 hit the Kanto region at 2 a.m. on Sunday, registering a lower 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in Tokyo and three prefectures, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The JMA estimates that the earthquake originated at a depth of 70 kilometers in southern Ibaraki Prefecture.
The earthquake did not trigger a tsunami.

The tremors were recorded at 2:00 a.m. local time . The earthquake's epicenter was in Ibaraki Prefecture at a depth of approximately 70 kilometers. Strong shaking was also felt in Tokyo.
