Storm Frank hits UK causing flooding fears and power cuts

 Heavy rain and gales are hitting Northern Ireland and Scotland as Storm Frank brings fears of further flooding.

There are four severe flood warnings, indicating danger to life, and 46 flood warnings, requiring immediate action, in force in England and Wales. Some 38 warnings are in place in Scotland.

Homes were left without power and air passengers delayed in Northern Ireland.

Meanwhile, soldiers evacuated homes near a North Yorkshire bridge after it collapsed, prompting gas leak fears.

In other developments:

    Police in York condemned looters who targeted flood victims' homes
    The storm caused hundreds of homes in Northern Ireland to lose power, but Northern Ireland Electricity Networks said most had since been reconnected
    Passengers on nine flights into Belfast International Airport were temporarily held on planes due to high winds. Two other inbound flights from Luton and Tenerife had to be diverted to Dublin
    A red weather warning has been issued for the Isle of Man, with up to 100mm of rain expected on high ground

A BBC Weather spokesman said heavy rain was set to hit north-west England, south and central Scotland, and Wales, warning up to 120mm could fall in some areas.

Gusts reached up to 80mph in the western fringes of Scotland overnight, he said...

    Gales and torrential rain have caused disruption to travel networks and electricity supply.

    Around 4,200 homes and businesses remain without power in many parts of the country.

    The impact of Storm Frank has resulted in further flooding, road closures and suspension of some rail services.

    Bus transfers are in operation between Limerick, Ennis and Galway due to flooding, as well as between Tralee and Killarney and Mallow due to subsidence.

    Some sailings by Stena Line and Irish Ferries have been cancelled but sailings of P&O Ferries are running to schedule.

    ESB Networks repair crews worked through the night in difficult conditions to restore supply to homes that have been blacked-out.
