No Tsunami Threat Following 6.9M Indonesia Earthquake

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says there is no tsunami threat to Hawai’i following a 6.9 magnitude earthquake near Kepulauan Talaud, Indonesia.

According to PTWC, the earthquake occurred Monday at 6:38 a.m. Hawai’i time.

United States Geological Survey officials say the earthquake was located 145 miles southeast of Sarangani, Philippines: 165 miles north-northwest of Tobelo, Indonesia; 166 miles south-southeast of Caburan, Philippines: 178 miles southeast of Glan, Phillipines; and 575 miles west-southwest of Koror Town, Palau.

  1. A 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck on Monday, around 330 km (205 miles) north-northwest of Indonesia's Molucca islands, the U.S. Geological Survey said...

    The USGS said the quake was 102 km deep.

    The NOOA Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said that, based on available information, "a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected."
