Gazprom launches gas supplies to Ukraine

Russian gas giant Gazprom may supply 2.166 bln cubic meters of gas to Ukraine’s state gas company Naftogaz till end-October at maximum supplies mode, CEO Alexey Miller said on Monday.

The CEO said that Ukraine has requested maximum supplies of Russian gas - 114 mln cubic meters per day, which is in line with Ukraine’s annual gas offtake of 52 bln cubic meters. Thus, at maximum daily supplies mode of 114 mln cubic meters Gazprom may deliver 2.166 bln cubic meters of gas to Ukraine within the remaining 19 days of October.

"Today at 10 am Gazprom launched gas supplies to Ukraine. We’ve received prepayment worth $234 mln out of promised $500 mln for October from Ukraine’s Naftogaz," Miller said.

As TASS reported earlier on September 25, trilateral gas talks between Russia, the European Union and Ukraine in Brussels resulted in an agreement on Ukraine’s purchases of gas from Gazprom in the volume of 2 bln cubic meters. The supplies suspended in the third quarter of 2015 at the initiative of the Ukrainian side, should have been resumed on October 1. Ukraine’s Naftogaz said the funds for Russian gas would be transferred to Gazprom accounts gradually, by small tranches.

The price for Russian gas for Ukraine in the fourth quarter of 2015 will stand at around $230 per 1,000 cubic meters including discount.

The agreed 2 bln cubic meters of gas should have been supplied by the beginning of November, which is usually the deadline for gas pumps in underground storage facilities.
